For several years I have been recording my bike rides, the goal being to get out on my bike for pleasure and for my health as often as possible. As in the creed of the postman, neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night should deter me - it doesn't mention wind. Well, rain and snow and wind do occasionally discourage me from getting on my bike. There is little pleasure to be had cycling on some days.
I decided to reset my goal and put walking on par with riding my bike. Certainly a win for my health if not an immediate win on the pleasure account. Whether it's a cardio or pulmonary problem I don't know, but I find walking unduly strenuous. This has of course discouraged me from walking more frequently which only exacerbates the problem. With this simple insight, I set my sights on walking on a regular basis in the hope it would get easier - and that I might even start to enjoy it.
